Tonight I am going to be talking about how different people find the motivation to do things in sport. Throughout the past two months I have played both soccer and volleyball here at Providence. Soccer started first and our coach was pretty hard on us. To motivate us he would yell at us and be very upfront to us which I think worked the best for me. He would tell us if we weren't playing good, and he would tell us if we were. A lot of the girls that I was playing with did not like his approach to coaching. They thought that he was to hard on them and that it was no way to talk to people. This caused some tension between our team dynamics which was hard, but we had a talk and it for the most part got resolved.
Since the soccer season is now over, I have been playing on the volleyball team. My volleyball coach is very different from my soccer coach. My volleyball coach is not as verbal as my soccer coach was. He is more particular with the words that he uses when he wants us to do better. I think for the dynamics of the volleyball team and how they think, this is a better approach. I wouldn't mind it if he was more verbal and told us when we needed to pick it up; but that's ok.
I am interested in seeing what one is more affective overall and which one is preferred. They both work for different people. I think that you can tell a lot from a person to how they can be coached. Most girls who like the 'hard-ass' coaching for lack of a better word and tougher as a person and I think who can handle the pressures a lot more compared to someone who is more sensitive to what coaches tell them. I have always been told and always believe that if a coach is not giving you feedback and not yelling at you or telling you what to do you should be more worried than if he is not saying anything to you at all. If he/she has stopped talking or worrying about you, then he has given up on you and that is a much scarier thing than a coach yelling at you and pushing you because he knows that you can do better!
And with that, I am concluding my blog posts!! Not that I won't write again, but it will not be as frequent as it has been for the past three months! Talk to you all later.

Yesterday in Western Civilization an interesting point was brought up. A Zambian woman wrote a book, and I cannot remember what the book was titled; but in this book she wrote about how if we would stop sending money/food/products to countries such as Africa and other third world places then there government would have to step up and become stronger so that they can do what is best for there country and provide the proper things that we as Canadians have in our every day life that other countries fight for everyday. I think that that is a very interesting point. I don't know if I agree on it completely, but I feel like if other countries did not rely on countries like us to provide things for them that they cannot would there country be stronger? Or would the government still not pay any attention to those they rule over. Personally I don't think that the government would do a whole lot if all of a sudden first world countries stopped helping the third world ones. I think that there government got them there to begin with and I think that those places have corrupt enough government that there wouldn't be a whole lot of change for those who do need the help that Canadians give to them. It was an interesting topic though, and I think that the more I think about it the more it makes me think. I wouldn't mind reading this book just because it is from a lady who is from one of theses struggling countries and it would be interesting to see her point of view on the topic and to see what she thinks. I have never been to Africa so I have never witnessed first hand the circumstances to which they live in, but I can only imagine how terrible it would be and if they didn't receive any help from anyone else then I don't know how they would survive.

We are now a month away from Christmas and for many that means, black Friday. Something that I was not overly familiar about but apparently every other person in America is. Black Friday is a day of the year a month before christmas and most of the stores in America (and now Canada) have crazy sales on all of there merchandise. Sales prices range from 10-90% off there store items and people go absolutely crazy! Watching the news tonight for about five minutes I was able to see just a bit of the madness that happens on this day. People take days off school and work and line up in front of there favourite stores a day before it opens. This year it seems to be out of control. There was a lady who brought pepper spray and sprayed her way through the crowds of people to get the items she wanted. There are people in the hospital in critical condition because they have been shot by others because of what they purchased.
I do not understand this at all. This is supposed to be a fun day for people to get a good discount off of whatever they wanted to to start there holiday shopping. Not a day that results in people sending other people to the hospital. Some police officers say that they were expecting worse that it was too.
I think that this is sad. Out of all the things that are wrong with our world and all of the reasons worth fighting for; this surly isn't one of them. People need to take a look at this and realize that there are things that might be worth fighting over, but a shopping day is not one of them. Absolutely ridiculous.

Today was WE day in Winnipeg. I have not heard of it until today and from the sounds of it and the commercials and advertisements I have watched it sounds pretty amazing. I love hearing stories like these. When people do things that are pure and for the a greater cause. It really is very inspirational.
For those of you who do not know what WE day is, it is a day where people go and listen to speakers talk for the day about how they can make a difference. They get celebrities to go and talk as well and I think that is so great of them to do that. It is nice to see that people who are as powerful as celebrities can be and have them use there stardom for the better! I think that more people should be involved in trying to make our world a better place. Once you hear people talk about how simple it can be; it really makes no sense to why people shouldn't take better care of our Earth. I think that we are so fortunate and that we take for granted a lot of things that we have. Things that are simple and we don't even think about. It is sad really. I am as guilty as anyone too when it comes to this. I am going to try and get better at putting things in perspective and being more grateful for the things that we so often take for granted! I am also going to try and make a difference. Everyone can, and I think of the people who have made a difference in my life and how I wouldn't be there if it wasn't for them, I think that I should give that back somehow. I think that everyone should! This Earth would be a lot better place ! :)

SUCKS TO B.U.
I live in Rivers MB. Rivers is only about half hour away from Brandon MB. Brandon is home to Brandon University, and as we all know; Brandon University has now been on strike for the past 41 days. So over a month now. This weekend when I visited home I was able to talk to a couple of my really good friends who are going to BU and there thoughts on everything that has happened with there school. I was actually surprised to see how frustrated my one friend is just because all throughout high school is was about the most un-studious person I knew! So it came to shock when he vented about how mad he was about the strike.
I think that it is complete B.S. what the students are going through right now. What's worse is that the profs have said that they are not refunding the students there lost tuition for missing the school that they have. I just do not understand the nerve that they have. At first (I don't know if this has changed on not) they were asking for a 37% increase in there pay! How do they expect to get that?! I know for a fact that after this year if they are wanting to get an increase in pay there tuition costs are going to have to get a lot higher because there is most definitely not going to be the same amount of people who attended BU this year as they have been in the past.
This is also ridiculous because they are saying that if they go back to school they will be making up for lost time during either the Christmas or summer holidays. I'm sorry.... but if they expect to get paid more money they how the hell can the students afford to pay for that if the time that they have to work in the summer and Christmas break to pay for there school is cut short.
One last note to how crazy/ridiculous/frustrating this whole thing is is that how are exchange students and the students that do not live here are being torn into not being able to go home because they have no idea to when they will even return to school. So in the mean time they cannot go home for right now, or even make plans to go home for there own Christmas because they don't know if they will have to stay at school and make up for the time that the selfish, self centred, self absorbed professors have missed.

And he's back ladies and gentleman!
After not appearing in any NHL game for 320 day Sidney Crosby is back! While the game is still going Sidney Crosby came in with a bang! His third shift back on the ice Crosby makes his way through three New York Islander players and banks it top shelf. Since then he has added two more assists to help his team out. As of right now they are beating the Islanders 3-0 mid second period.
With all the hype that Sid the kid has had on and off the ice it is nice to see him return and have such a strong impact on the team. Sidney Crosby left the hockey world for a while there because of head injuries that he had suffered last season during a game against the Tampa Bay Lightings. Since then he has had a lot of talk going on around him to whether he would return to the rink and play even. I do not think that he suffered major head injuries, I understand that every head injury should be a serious matter, but I think that it was a pretty big extreme with Sidney Crosby. I do understand though the need to keep the Penguins captain in good health though. So far this game he has taken a couple hits and has done fine with them, but I do not expect teams will go lightly on him since returning. It will be interesting to see what happens with his career in the next couple of weeks!
Wishing him the best of luck!

Laura Gillingham is nineteen years old. She grew up in Rivers MB, Canada. In Rivers there is not a whole lot to do, so what did she do with her spare time? She played sports, a lot of them! She thinks that sports is a huge part of her life and has made her who she is today.
Laura's mom, Rachel was a gymnastics coach, so Laura and her sister Alexis played gymnastics for a couple of years. She can't remember how long she played for, but it wasn't very long. Laura really did appreciate that even though her mom loved the sport and wanted to see her kids compete in it, she never pressured them into playing in something that they didn't love as much as her. In grade one Laura started to play soccer. Her dad was her coach from under eight soccer until under sixteen soccer. She thinks that her dad being her coach for that period of time was both a good and bad thing. More good than bad for sure though. The only bad thing was that they often got into fights because he was very hard on her. At the same time though, that was also a good thing for Laura and really helped shape her as a person. She thinks that because if her dad had not been hard on her she would not be able to take people getting upset at her she wouldn't have been able to handle the coaches that she has had since her dad who are are and were very hard on her. She thinks that if she never had her dad as a coach she wouldn't have been able to play the sports she has continued to play throughout her high school and college career.
Laura thinks that sports have also helped her learn how to balance things in her life and has taught her many lessons besides learning solely the game itself. She has learnt from the sports she has played the importance of teamwork, hard work, satisfaction, appreciation, heart, and wanting something so badly and doing everything that she knows possible in order to achieve her goals!
